Police in Massachusetts are currently investigating the cause and probably the shooter, after a woman was struck by a bullet Monday night in Canton.

Authorities said they received a call about shots fired at about 10 p.m. in the area of York Street and Ledgewood Drive. There, a woman suffered non-life threatening injuries after she was struck by a bullet.

However, a large police presence was seen during the response, but the scene has since been cleared. One neighbor told NBC10 Boston and necn that he heard loud noises that were later revealed as gunshots.

“We thought it was fireworks because we heard several crackles,” said Bill Barron. “It was more than one, I’m pretty sure.”

Barron said a lot of elderly people live in Canton town.

Details on who fired the shots were not immediately available. It not yet clear if the woman received any treatment or she is under going treatment for her injury.

The investigation is still ongoing.
